During his AMA, Keighley was asked directly how many announcements would be made during The Game Awards 2019. Keighley, to his credit, responded equally directly. According to Keighley there are “around 10 new games/projects being revealed” speaking specifically about “things that no one has heard about yet. As such, fans can probably expect more than 10 total announcements, with 10 of them completely new games or products. His use of the word “around” is also notable, perhaps implying some announcements may or may not make the show.

What’s especially exciting about Keighley’s response on Reddit isn’t just the number of total announcements, but what followed. Keighley confirms in a separate response that “nothing about our show has leaked as of this writing.” In other words, none of the rumors out there so far is accurate. All of The Game Awards 2019’s announcements are going to be surprising, which is somewhat hard to believe but is also quite exhilarating.
That’s not to say that The Game Awards 2019 haven’t teased some things already. For example, one confirmed announcement is supposed to come from WolfEye Studios, a new studio from the ex-President and Creative Director of Arkane Studios. A second announcement, confirmed after Keighley’s AMA, will be for a Riot Games-published narrative game set in League of Legends’ universe from an unannounced developer. That’s 2 of the 10 announcements teased, but none of the 10 games leaked.
In light of Keighley’s answers during his AMA, rumor and speculation is certain to get even wilder. Keighley did take the time to quash one big rumor specifically. According to Keighley, Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 Remake is not one of The Game Awards 2019’s announcements and never was. While that confirmation is certain to be disappointing to Resident Evil fans, it at least breaks the news early so fans won’t be disappointed at the event. And it means that another new announcement will take its place.
The Game Awards 2019 airs December 12 at 5:30pm across over 10 different streaming partners including Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, and Mixer.
